To our Jewish community,
As your non-Jewish neighbors on Mercer Island, we are writing to you to express our heartfelt sadness and outrage over the recent string of antisemitic incidents that took place on and around Islander Middle School.
We are paying attention and we will not stay silent. We condemn antisemitism in the strongest terms and stand united with you as we seek to build schools – and a broader Mercer Island community – that are safe and respectful for everyone. The Jewish community is an essential part of the fabric of our city and we are proud to be your neighbors, friends, fellow PTA parents, and allies.
Antisemitism is rising across society and we are committed to speaking up and calling out antisemitism when we see or hear it. For those of us raising children, we are committed to having conversations within our families about the hurt caused by antisemitism—and the responsibility and shared hope of creating a future marked by kindness, understanding, and respect.
